How Can I Make Money Online?

There are literally thousands of ways to make money online but not all of them are applicable or accessible to our region. For example there are jobs onlineor programs that are only open to Americans or Canadians and so forth. So in order to make money online from your home in Jamaica you have to ensure that it can be done from this region or from any part in the world.

Are you prepared to put in the work, it’s definitely possible to get paid to write – and earn good money – even if you’re starting out with no experience and no credentials. So, if you dream of working from home as a freelance writer, please ignore the naysayers because there are plenty of websites that will pay you to write for them.

This is a freelancing platform where you can get jobs to write articles and earn money. Even if you are a beginner you can find jobs. It is one of the most popular freelancing websites.

I had zero paid writing experience and zero credentials when I got started on their site, yet I was still able to land paying gigs as a total beginner, and increase my rates fast.

#2    You Can Make a Full-Time Salary Transcribing

how can I make money online

Becoming a general transcriptionist is a great way to make money from home. There are certain skills and certifications you need to acquire to ensure employers will take you seriously. Once you’ve got those skills, you can use social media and job websites to look for work. Having a clean, quiet work space with the equipment you need can help you complete your work in a timely and professional manner.

Websites that hire Transcribers:

1. Transcribe Me

Transcribe Me is an online transcription service that companies can use to turn audio files into text.  It’s also a website where everyday people can get paid for listening to an audio file, and typing out what it says.

There is a lot of mixed feelings about Transcribe Me out there on the internet.  Some people swear that it’s just a waste of time because you won’t be able to make very much money from it.  While other people out there swear it is the best opportunity out there to create a full time income online.

I figured I would jump right into this considering that’s what most people want to know the most.  “Can I really make a living with Transcribe Me?”   As it turns out, there are people out there who make a living transcribing audio files for Transcribe Me.

However it is certainly not for everyone, according to the website the average worker makes $250/month. They pay $20 per audio hour. Which in translation means that they pay you depending on how many audio samples you transcribe. If you are someone who has a past transcribing files you can send in your resume and you could possibly make up to $50 per audio hour.

It’s important to note here that your pay and success with this system will depend on how fast you can type.

It’s not too difficult to understand.  As a transcriber, you will receive audio files that are 10 to 60 seconds long, and you will simply type out what you hear. You will then submit your file for review, and if it passes the quality inspection they’ll add money to your Transcribe Me Account.

The audio files you’ll receive will just be a short cut out of a much larger file.  Transcibe Me claims that doing things that way leads to higher quality transcriptions.

2.  Scribie

Scribie is the online transcription platform that you can look at as the internship program of home based transcription. My foray into online work began on this platform. It gave me a good grounding on general expectations when it comes to home based jobs. I learned a lot in the time that I spent on Scribie.

The requirements for working on Scribie are simple. You need a computer with an internet connection and a PayPal account. The PayPal account is a requirement in order to register. Once you sign up you will have access to their guidelines that explain how you must to do the transcription.

To work from Scribie you need to pass a transcription test. Once you familiarize yourself with the guidelines you can apply for placement on the waiting list. I received the email to take the test after two days. The test is 3 to 6 minute file that you must transcribe according to what you learned from the guidelines. Once you have taken the test and submitted it, it will undergo the same grading process that all files do.

3. Rev

Rev.com is an online transcription service that also offer jobs to people without transcription experience wherever you are located in the world.  They believe that attracting the best workers is the key to providing customers with the best possible transcription, translation, and captioning services.

According to their website, Rev.com is similar to many other transcription companies in that they rely on a network of freelancers to provide their transcriptions, captions, and translations for them. However, to this network of freelancers, they claim to add unbeatable quality, speed, and value, which places them above their competition.

They also promise that all files are securely stored and transmitted using 128-bit SSL encryption, which they say is the highest level of security available, and that they never store credit card information. Files will only ever be visible to their professionals who have signed strict confidentiality agreements, so you can feel comfortable submitting your files.

Like most other companies, you are given a test and once you pass you will be employed as a transcriber or a translator.

4.   Casting Words

Casting Words is a company that hires transcribers to convert short audio files to text. I have never worked for this company but I have heard about it so you could check it out.

Making an income online transcribing is a great method, but it’s not the easiest skill to pick up and pay is determined by how quickly you can transcribe. If you’re interested in making a full-time income online.

5.   Got Transcript

how can I make money online

Go Transcript offers a work at home transcription job that does not require experience. Before you’re accepted you need to pass their test, so some experience will obviously help out.  If you can get accepted, it’s a flexible work at home job where you can pretty much work whenever you want.

#3   How Can I Make Money Online : Blog Your Way to Financial Freedom

how can I make money online

A blog is a website that you update on a regular basis about whatever subject you choose to share with your visitors. It is a wonderful platform that allows you to express yourself about anything that is on your mind without restraint. Then the best part about this is that you can also turn your blog into a fulltime job. Yes I said a fulltime job. There are people on the Internet that make $10k, $15k, 50k  and some people much more per month with just a blog.

So are you still asking the question “Can I make money online”?    If you are, the answer remains the same there are hundreds of ways in addition to ones I have listed so far.  To make money from a blog it takes a little more effort, persistence and patience before you start seeing the fruits of your labour.  First thing, you have to decide what you want to share with the public.

Finding A Niche

If you are going to use your blog to make money then you are going to need to pick a topic, otherwise called a niche,to blog about that is fairly popular.   A niche is basically targeting a specific group of people and finding a solution to their problem.  You sell and they buy.

The key to turning a blog into a job is traffic (people). If you blog about something that not too many people are into, you will of course have less traffic. If you don’t have people you don’t have anyone to buy your stuff, click on your inks, etc. If you don’t have a fairly popular topic you can forget about getting the people.

Now with that being said you also need to pick a niche to blog about that you have some interest in and preferably some knowledge about. Believe me when I say this-people will know before they finish the first post if you are knowledgeable or just trying to get one over on them. It’s a lot easier to get people on your side that want to listen to what you have to say if you are speaking from the heart.

You first need to pick a niche to build your website around. Don’t agonize too much trying to find the perfect niche. You have to go into it knowing that sometimes you are going to hit a homerun and other times you are going to fly out to center. It’s ok to “fail” because the only true way to fail is to never try.

“Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.”

-Napoleon Hill

How to Find a Niche

Finding a niche can be a simple process if you know how to go about it. Remember a niche is a group of people that have something in common, dog lovers, football, how to make money online, how to lose weight after having a baby, Jamaican recipes or something of that nature. Start out by brainstorming a few ideas that you think might work. You can get some good ideas by looking at some of the websites in the niche you are interest in.

If your niche is to be profitable you have to find a niche in which you will be able to find people, and in turn they will find you. One way to determine this, is once you narrow down your niche and have decided on several that you think are good, go and do a search on Google for forums in your particular niche. If there are active forums, that means people are interested and are going to be looking for information.

Another important factor to keep in mind is to be sure and pick a niche where the people you are targeting have money to spend. Even if you are not selling anything directly, some niches are inherently more lucrative than others. Medical terms, for example, pay more through adsense because they attract a higher cost per click.

Setting Up Your Blog

Once you have decided on a niche you will then need to set up your blog.

If this is your first time setting up a blog or anything remotely close don’t panic. Whichever blogging service you choose it will provide step-by-step instructions to help get you started.

Don’t go into panic mode take your time, read the instructions, and have fun with it. Remember, if you don’t like it or if further down the line when you have learned a little more you can always change the layout, color or whatever. It’s your blog.

Choosing A Domain Name

A lot of people tend to ignore the importance of choosing a great domain name so before you go any further take the time out to select a good domain name.  Choose one that relates to the niche you have chosen. It is advisable to choose a domain name with a dot.com but if it is not available the next best solution is dot.net and if you have to, dot.org is not so bad for a content site. You can even get away with a dot.info since it’s mainly displaying information.

I will stress, however, do not beat yourself up over this. It is important but it is not by any means absolutely 100% necessary. If you are in a good niche and you write great content you can get ranked in the top ten without having an exact keyword matched domain.

There are a lot of places that you can get domain names to buy; however I have always purchase my domain names from Namecheap.  They are not only the cheapest but I also find the service to be reliable and so I recommend you buy your domain name from namecheap.

Keyword Research

Ok you’ve decided on your niche, and are ready to build your first website. Right? Wrong, before you go tearing off to write articles you have to check out the competition. Mention keyword research to most people in Internet marketing and they either get a dumb look on their face or they get a look of terror.

Well it doesn’t have to be that way if you know what you are doing. So what really are keywords? Keywords are the words or phrase that people type into the search engine when they are searching for information.  So if someone wants information on beaches in Jamaica they could type in – Jamaican beaches or beaches in Jamaica – these would be the keywords.

You would then research this keyword “Jamaican beaches” to see how many people search using this keyword, if a lot of people search for it each month its a good sign that people are interested and they might buy products relating to Jamaica beaches.

The next thing you will do then is check to see what the competition is like for this keyword.  See how many other person/website is writing about this subject and using the same keyword.

Here’s a quick example of how it’s done.  Let us look at the keyword “Jamaican Beaches”

Check out the competition for the keyword “Jamaican Beaches”. There are 19,900 websites listed in Google are using this keyword.   Go to Google and type in “Jamaican beaches” just like that in quotes and see the result.   So with 19 thousand competitors what do you think are your chances of getting on page one of the search engines.

You have to bear in mind that the objective here is to get as much as possible of your article on page one of the major search engines so people will see it because the truth is most people don’t go beyond page one when they are doing searches on the internet.

The reason you put the quotes around a word when you are researching it in google is that it cuts through all of the garbage and narrows your search to sites that are targeting that specific keyword. For example if you search without quotes you will get pages that only have the word Jamaica beaches maybe mentioned once.

Back to the keyword, let us narrow it down a bit by finding some related keywords that have a little less competition. Here’s where people start to freak out, but don’t worry like I said it’s a process and you just need the right steps and tools.

There are many keyword tools out and you should check them out to see which one you like the best and which one fits into your budget. For this search we are going to be using  Jaaxy.   This is a wonderful keyword tool that I use everyday.

You will then use this keyword tool to search for other variation to the keyword like

  • beautiful Jamaican beaches
  • Jamaica beach resorts
  • beaches in Jamaica
  • best beaches in Jamaica

Jaaxy will tell you how many websites are competing for the same keyword and how many times the keyword is entered in search engines each month.  Some experts suggest that any keyword with less than 100 competing websites and over 300 searches each month is a good choice.

Content Creation

The number one rule when creating content websites is, keep it simple and clean.  Don’t over do it, just a nice simple html template with good content.

Let’s get started:

• Start by writing 50-70 articles using the keywords you have found

• Make each article at least 1000 words in length for each of the keywords; articles can be shorter also

• Make sure to mention the keyword at least three times, at least once in the first and last paragraph. Also include it in the title

This is just basic SEO (search engine optimization) but will be more than enough to get you started.

Your First Post

This is probably the hardest part for most people, and even more so if you don’t have prior writing experience. Don’t panic, just sit down somewhere quiet and start writing. You will be surprised at how easy and liberating it can be. You may want to start with “Welcome To My Blog” then proceed with why you started your blog, who you are and what they can expect in the future.

Time To Make Money with Your Blog

Now that you have picked your niche, figured out which blog service you want to go with and got your blog set up and ready to go, how do you monetize it?

There are several ways that you can make money from your blog. One of the easiest ways is putting adsense ads on your pages. Go to Google Adsense and sign up for an account and just follow the directions.

Another very popular way to monetize your blog is to sell affiliate products (If you don’t know what affiliate products are, don’t worry have a look at this article I wrote earlier). You can just place the affiliate ads in the sidebar or within the text or you can put up complete review pages on the product you want to sell with your affiliate link.

Yet another way to make money from a blog is to use some of the paid to blog sites. Yes, there are sites that will pay you to write a review on your site of their product.

The big problem with these types of plains is that you don’t choose the products to review they are chosen for you. You can turn down the assignment but if you do that to many times, well they may stop sending them. (For this type of program you usually have to have a certain number of visitors each day).

Promoting Your Site

Now that you have your website up and running, how do you get traffic to it so that you can start earning $$$$? You are going to get some traffic from the search engines, which is good, and we will take it. We want to drive as much traffic as possible.

Remember our goal is to get the site making money so that we can sell it. The faster it’s making money, the quicker we can cash in on it.  There are several ways to promote your site one of the best and free ways to get traffic, is to write articles and point them to your website. Posting in forums that are full of people discussing your niche is another great way to get free traffic.

Yes You Can with Affiliate Marketing

I mentioned affiliate marketing earlier and you may, by now, have an idea as to what it is. As for how to turn it into an online business that will fill your pockets with money, you are probably still scratching your head.

Affiliate Marketing by definition is the act of one person (affiliate) selling the products of another person/company (merchant) for a percentage of the sale.  Simply put-if there is something online that you would like to sell, I would say there’s a 98% chance that you can find an affiliate program for it.

There are affiliate programs for information products, physical products and services. There are even affiliate programs that you can sign up for that all you have to do is supply leads to a company in order to get paid.

Sounds simple enough, right?  Well it is, and then again it’s not if you don’t know what you are doing. Lets dig a little deeper into this. The good news is that if you have been paying attention you already have some of the skills needed and you don’t even know it yet.

• How do you choose a good affiliate program?

• Where do you find an affiliate program to promote?

• What do you promote?

• What should you look for in an affiliate program?

• How do you promote the affiliate program?

• Do you need a website to promote an affiliate program?

• What should my website look like?

These are just some of the questions that most novice affiliate marketers have when first starting out. There are literally hundreds of questions that will arise as you start your rise to super affiliate.

I will try to address some of the more important questions to get you started and point you in the right direction to find some of the information and help for the rest. There is no way that I could address every question that you may have or that may arise but I will try.

What to Promote?

Finding an affiliate program to promote is a little different process than making information websites. When deciding what to promote as an affiliate you need to first look for a hungry crowd. If you have a hungry crowd that is in need or passionate about what they love and they have money to spend, you have people to sell to.

Ok, so you are trying to decide on what to sell. First you have to know who you are selling to and what you want to sell them. Choosing the right affiliate program to promote can be overwhelming.  There are several things you need to keep in mind.

• Merchant Quality and Integrity- Is the merchant reputable, honest and offering a quality product?

• Website or Sales Page- Don’t forget you have to send the prospective customer to the sales page. If it looks amateurish to you and you would not buy from it chances are your hard earned customer won’t either.

• Support- That one’s pretty self-explanatory. What kind of support option do they have in place should the time arise when you need assistance?

• Affiliate Tools- Do they offer ready made banners, buttons, text links etc? Most good affiliate programs offer a wide range of affiliate tools to help you promote. (I would recommend steering away from the ready-made websites unless you are allowed to tweak them a little.)

That’s a few of the questions you need ask before choosing an affiliate program to promote. The most important thing you can do is to do your due diligence. Ask around, check the forums and see if anyone else is using them or has anything negative to say.

Do you need a website?

The short and simple answer is No you do not need a website to promote and make money as an affiliate. There are literally hundreds of places and ways to promote your chosen affiliate program.  However, having a website is an asset it gives you an advantage in marketing your product.

Affiliate Marketing is one of the easiest, fastest, cheapest to get started, profitable businesses on the Internet. But the bottom line is, as with any new talent you start, there is a learning curve.

Unfortunately for most, the learning curve for affiliate marketing can be hard to overcome and sometimes very costly. I remember when I first started out, I sometimes felt like my head was spinning from all the information and trying to figure out in which direction I was supposed to go next. I wasted a lot of time and money.

I remember thinking to myself “if only I had someone to show me exactly what I needed to do or point me in the right  direction I know I can do this.”  Well just as I was on the verge of giving up I found a place filled with people just like myself, people trying to make money online through affiliate marketing.

I Found Wealthy Affiliate

The Wealthy Affiliate Forum– What can I say about the forum? Well let’s see. The forum is where everyone on Wealthy Affiliate goes to get advice, give advice, share newly acquired information, and share his or her success and failures.

They are very active in the forum and post new threads and respond to questions or problems frequently.  Oh, and you can PM them and they will actually get back to you.

Conclusion

So if you are still asking the question How can I make money online?  The answer is YES! YES! YES!

In closing I want to leave this with you and I hope it will help you.

Some very famous people had these to say:

  • “We have only found 586 ways that won’t work and won’t have to be tried again.    Soon, we will find one that does.”
  • “I have not failed 700 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 700 ways will not work.”
  • “If I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.”

Those were all quotes by Thomas Edison, who was reported to have failed over 10,000 different times while trying to perfect thelightbulb.

I don’t know about you, but I am glad he was a failure and not a quiter.

So take what you have learned from this article and expand on it. This is by no means the end all be all, this is in no way all the informationyou will ever need to succed online, but it is the information you need to get started.

Getting started is the hardest part. I wish you success in your online efforts and may your business prosper beyond your wildest dreams. Now get out there and GET STARTED!

Don’t wait; the time will never be “just right.” Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you have and better tools will be found as you go along.”-Napoleon Hill
