Amazon is one of the largest shopping platform on the internet. It is very competitive and you can get items in price range to suit your budget. In this article I will guide you through the process of how to buy on Amazon from right here in Jamaica. I am sure by now you will realize that online shopping has outperformed brick and mortar stores by leaps and bounds.
Shopping online has become so convenient now for the modern day shoppers, it is so easy to sit in your living room or in your bed order what you want online and it delivered at your doorstep. Can you imagine services like these, who wants to take on the hassle and walking from store to store. Certainly not me.
I have been shopping online now for over five years, and apart from a few bad experiences I can truly say it is one of the best technological breakthrough. Shopping online is definately the way to go for me. So I will be introducing you to one of my favourite vendors where you can get almost anything to buy from their online store. So lets go and I show you how to buy from Amazon.
Oh before I go any further, I have to let you know that Amazon does not ship products to Jamaica so you will have to get a United States shipping address. No sweat, nothing to worry about. I am going to show you how to sign up for an United States shipping address and how to get your products to you without any hassle.
Steps by Step Guide on How to Buy on Amazon from Jamaica
Step 1 – Get a Visa or Mastercard Credit/Debit Card
In order to buy on Amazon you have to be able to pay for the goods instantly, just like you would in any store, the fact that you can’t pay by cash means you have to find another way to pay. For amazon you can either pay with a Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card.
How and Where to Get a Visa/Mastercard Debit Card
For the purpose of this article I will only look at how to get a Visa or Mastercard Debit Card. If you already have one you can skip this step. Also for persons who have a credit card you are good to go, if you are desirous of getting a credit card you can contac your local banks for details. (I will do an article soon on how to apply for a credit card).
Visa Debit Card
To the best of my knowledge there are only two commercial banks in Jamaica which offer this card (comment below if there are others), namely: Bank of Nova Scotia and CIBC Limited.
How to Apply for Your Visa Debit Card
If you don’t have a ScotiaCard Visa Debit card, visit your Scotiabank branch to get one today. They will provide you with everything you need for immediate access.
If you already have a ScotiaCard Visa Debit card and it is not yet activated for you to shop online call them toll free at (888) 991-2675.
Visit the bank’s website and you will get all the information you need on how to open an account.
Just a little side note: Personally, I recommend using the Visa Debit card as opposed to the credit card. The fact that you can’t spend more than what you have in the account gives a little relief although itis still possible to overspend. The credit card on the other hand, takes a lot of self-discipline to stay within budget.
It is always so tempting to go on spending spree with a credit card because there are no restrictions on the amount you spend until you have exceeded your limit. At that point it is catastrophy and the stress of high interest rates.
Step 2 – Open An account with a Shipping Company
So with card in hand it is now time to decided how the goods will get to you after you have purchased it on Amazon. Yes, the process is: you go online see a product or search for a product, you purchase the goods and the company ship it to you.
